If everybody wants school to reform, why don’t we do it? It is still “all about the kids” who are still learning old lessons the old way. It is still school, that prepares young, choice-conscious consumers for a Market, not citizens for a Society; it shows students the old path to an old idea of prosperity, only now under energy saving bulbs in a cost efficient, climate-controlled building.
Looking for a school to join their kid, the school's founders found all the local schools to be money-driven. They found them extremely unsatisfactory, so much so that they decided to homeschool their daughter instead. The idea of starting a school started then. So, the school will be not-for-profit in its true essence (not just on paper). Over time, we plan on having many more satellite schools in Sheelanagar, Visakhapatnam. We want to make a school that exemplifies what a school should be like in that locale.
We envision a school that transforms the locality & the people in the neighborhood. The transformation could be in multiple ways like Inculcating sustainable practices (such as installing water-soaking pits, supplying reusable handbags to local stores, urging people to use and return them, etc.) or Making people aware of the local history of Visakhapatnam and biodiversity and its conservation, etc. The students could be doing projects on the Mosquito problem, garbage issue, lack of good public toilets, etc. The school can fund such projects and if needed, we shall also work with the local government to change things for the better.
The school intends to turn the kids into ideal grown-up citizens. The school environment would make them love to read, take up sports, etc. On entering the school, the kids would find a warm community of learners, affable teachers, and seniors to approach anytime. Also, we see the teachers as the most important part of the school. They will be treated with utmost dignity, the pay will be better than most schools in the city and all the hours they spend for the school will be acknowledged. They will receive an ample amount of time. We intend to make this a teacher’s paradise to attract the best talent.
After school hours, the school would also be a place to hang out for local people irrespective of age. We shall have a publicly accessible library and a tinkering lab too. People of all ages would be coming here to learn Music, Arts, Crafts, etc. on the campus premises. Awareness camps for senior citizens on digital skills, bank scams, password safety, etc will also be done regularly. So, basically, it’s a place where everyone feels the warmth of being surrounded by supportive people who are willing to learn and get better and we intend to extend this feeling to people living in the neighborhood of the school.
